Tutorial: How to Use Symantec Ghost Boot CD

This tutorial explains how to use Symantec Ghost Boot CD to clone a hard drive, create a backup image, or restore a system image easily and safely.

Requirements

Before starting, make sure you have:

• Symantec Ghost Boot CD

• Source drive (original disk)

• Destination drive (new disk or empty disk)

• Backup of important data

Step 1: Boot From the Ghost CD

1. Insert the Ghost Boot CD into your computer.

2. Restart your PC.

3. Enter BIOS/UEFI settings (press F2, F12, DEL, or ESC during startup).

4. Set the CD/DVD drive as the first boot device.

5. Save changes and restart.

Your system will load into the Ghost DOS interface.

Step 2: Clone Hard Drive (Disk to Disk)

Follow these steps to clone your hard drive:

1. Select:
   Local → Disk → To Disk

2. Choose the source disk (the drive you want to copy).

3. Click OK.

4. Select the destination disk.

5. Confirm the disk information carefully.

6. Click Yes to start the cloning process.

Wait until the cloning process is completed. Do not turn off the computer.

Step 3: Create Backup Image (Disk to Image)

To create a backup image file:

1. Select:
   Local → Disk → To Image

2. Choose the source disk.

3. Select a location to save the image file (.gho).

4. Choose compression level (None, Fast, or High).

5. Confirm and start the backup.

The image file can later be used for restoration.

Step 4: Restore Image to Disk

To restore a backup image:

1. Select:
   Local → Disk → From Image

2. Browse and select the image file (.gho).

3. Choose the destination disk.

4. Confirm the settings.

5. Click Yes to begin restoration.

Important Notes

• The destination disk will be completely erased.

• Always double-check source and destination drives.

• Use a stable power source during the process.

• Remove the CD after completion and reboot normally.
